Dressage Riding Lessons, Horse Training and Equestrian Relationships

Dressage Riding Lessons

“Courage, wisdom born of insight and humility, empathy born of compassion and love, all can be bequeathed by a horse to his rider” – Charles de Kunffy

Lunge Lessons

Specialized "Seat Lessons" on the lunge line can be beneficial in developing a correctly balanced seat, the primary instrument of clear two-way communication with the horse.  This encompasses the rider's balance, alignment and their own "self carriage" as well as the subtle communication best suited to influence and guide the horse.

30 minutes on a DD mount $60

A horse and trainer build their relationship through nonphysical connection during round pen work.

Round Pen Skills

Often a horse is better able to process requests and take responsibility for the use and control of their own body without a physical connection to their human partner.  Round pen work can help both parties focus on the more subtle communication through energy and body language.  The relationship developed on the ground carries over to mounted work.

20 - 30 minutes at DD round pen $45

This can also be part of a private mounted lesson.

Horse Training & Boarding

"An understanding of a horse’s nature is one of the first basics in the art of riding, and all horsemen must make this their principle consideration.” – Francois Robichon de la Gueriniere

A trainer builds the athletic conditioning of a horse.

Training

$1250/ mo, $375/ wk

Horse training is tailored to the specific developmental needs of each horse and may include mounted training, ground work, round pen skills, work on the lunge line or in hand.  The goal is improved recognition and responsiveness to the aids resulting in improved conditioning, athletic development and a willing and interested partner.  The horse's readiness dictates the pace, typically through five 45 minute sessions per week.

Training Philosophy

Development of the horse's athletic ability, confidence and participation in the horse-human partnership.  The Dressage Training Scale (Rhythm, Suppleness, Connection, Impulsion, Straightness, Collection) provides a balanced foundation for horses of every discipline.  It is designed to help every horse better use their bodies for the best chance of able-bodied, mentally engaged longevity.
