Fall 2011 Adult Education Equestrian Courses

As the days get shorter, spend your evenings learning and sharing with others in the eastern Maine horse community!

Downeast Dressage’s Michelle Coad will offer the following two equestrian courses this fall through the Bucksport and Bangor Adult Education Programs.

Training Horses In Their Own Language:

Bucksport:  October 18th, 21st and November 1st 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Bangor:  October 20th, 23rd and November 3rd 6:00 – 8:00 PM

This course uses video and visual aids to study herd dynamics and body language of wild horses and the incorporation of these behaviors into the horse-human communication of today’s most successful Natural Horsemanship techniques. It highlights the similarities and differences among today’s most prominent trainers and their programs and helps the student choose and develop skills to build a partnership that supports their goals and their horse’s talents. Interactive discussion. Open to all levels and disciplines.

Improving Harmony Under Saddle:

Bucksport:  November 15, 22 and 29 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Bangor:  November 14, 21 and 28 6:00 – 8:00 PM

This course examines the muscular-skeletal biomechanics of horse and rider and how the correct timing and application of the rider aids influence the quality of the horse’s movement, creating a harmonious pair. It identifies the basic gaits and paces, their characteristics, common faults and development. The USDF glossary will be provided as a resource for terminology of these concepts. Video, body awareness exercises and demonstration will be used to enhance understanding. Open to all levels and disciplines.
